Day 1 – A new journey

I must admit to being a little scared as I write this.

This morning, during my ‘Quiet Time’ with God, I have received an instruction. It’s just like God to make this happen on the first day of a new month, signifying a new start and a new journey. The date is 01.11.12 (the way we write it in South Africa and the UK) and as I looked at it I realised that it is almost 10.11.12. I smiled at the fact that it wasn’t 10.11.12 (my brain loves seeing patterns in things), and then the LORD said to me that it’s not 10.11.12, because He’s going to change the order of things around.

This is the instruction that I have received.

There are several things that God has both warned me about as well as promised me, on this journey. It will be both an utterly amazing experience as well as a really scary one. The promise is though that as in John 16:33, Jesus says,

I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace and confidence. In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer [take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted]! For I have overcome the world. [I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you.] (Amp)

So, as per instructions…here we go!

Something I have struggled with for years is the transition between my Quiet Time and the rest of the day. I’ve learned that the best way to resolve something I don’t know the answer to myself, is to ask the LORD what to do. There’s often a very irritating gap between when I first start feeling the frustration and when I actually ask, though!
I usually end off my QT by putting on the ‘Armour of God’ in Ephesians 6 (and I actually read it from my Bible). I seem to feel that I know where it comes from then – a trusted source – instead of just my own memory. When I’m finished, I feel really energised because I mean what I say when I’m putting it on. Then, it often feels like I’m leaving You behind LORD and going into my day not talking to You as much as I so badly want to.
So, this morning, I asked and this is what You said. It would be way easier to put the Armour on first thing when I start my QT. That will not only help me not have to make a ‘transition’ into the day, but also remind me of how amazing You are right at the beginning of our QT!
Now you can see why I’m addicted to God’s wisdom vs my own.

I’m reading a book called “The Supernatural Ways of Royalty” by Kris Vallotton. In it he talks about the two opposing mindsets: the one of poverty vs the one of princely. It’s when I read books like this that I’m very aware of a) how far God has already taken me and b) how much further I still have to go icon smile Day 1 A new journey

It is however, an amazing journey, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

With all their might

It’s springtime here in the UK and even though the wind is still very cold, the sky is blue and cloudless most days.

Watching the plants emerge from their Winter hibernation is always fascinating to me. They rest and recuperate throughout the cold months and then, with all their might, they concentrate on their primary tasks – to grow and to multiply.

I think that one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned from plants is to concentrate on a task single-mindedly, with all my might, and to the exclusion of everything else, until the task is complete.

Phew… amazing lessons all around us every day – if only we will take the time to look.

The Power of Appreciation

Appreciate 150x112 The Power of AppreciationMy husband works on huge servers that look like the ones in this picture. All through our marriage he has come home and excitedly explained the intricacies and amazing capabilities of UNIX and I have sat patiently and listened and nodded my head at (what I hope are) the appropriate places. His enthusiasm for what he does is really infectious.

Even though I mostly don’t have the faintest idea about the detail of what he does on a day to day basis, I really appreciate what he does. He has a natural love and gifting in the area of computers and I most certainly don’t. I can see though that my appreciation of his love and gift, gives him a sense of value and pride in his skill and in his ability to go out and make a difference, every day.

So, even though you may not understand or share someone’s love of what they do, taking the time to appreciate it in them can be a wonderful way of showing them love.

Keep the Fire Burning

Filomena Scalise /

Flame alive 86x150 Keep the Fire BurningWhat is it that keeps you keeping on?

Is it a dream that is deeply etched into your soul? Is it a sense of responsibility? Is it wanting to leave a legacy? Is it pursuit of ‘the good life’? Is it because you want to make a difference?

Whatever it is that keeps you going no matter what obstacles you face, I encourage you to nurture it as much as you can. It is essential to continued forward movement to keep the reason for that forward movement, as sharp and clear as possible.

Keep the fire burning.

Celebrate Your Victories

Celebrate 150x116 Celebrate Your VictoriesOne of the most important things we can do for ourselves is to celebrate our victories.

Any goal that you have set for yourself to achieve should be broken down into small bite size portions. When you’ve accomplished a portion, celebrate it!

It’s an amazing technique to consciously stop and take a minute to help yourself feel good about an achievement. It boosts your self belief and gives you oomph to carry on to complete the next portion.

Stop, take the time to celebrate your victories throughout the day.

Be You!

Tree 150x100 Be You!One of the things that has most profoundly helped me in my life, is when I heard it said that we can learn a lot from the stages of growth in Nature.

This picture reminded me of the uniqueness of each individual on Earth.

You see, some trees are meant to lose their leaves in winter and some aren’t. Some will shed all of their leaves as soon as they feel a chill in the air, while others will hold onto them as long as possible before letting go. Some leaves will turn gold while others turn auburn and some will make a soft carpet while others will crackle.

Each tree’s leaves have their own particular instruction for dealing with the harsh cold of winter and similarly, we each have instructions for our own lives too.

We each have a unique path to walk which may, in places, look similar to other people’s paths. We go through similar seasons in our lives, encounter people who have had experiences which echo our own, but ultimately, we each live a uniquely hand crafted life.

So, don’t compare yourself with anyone else and say, “I wish I … like so and so” or ” If only I had … like they do” – it’s a game without a winner.

Realise that your life is special, unique and beautifully your own. Embrace it and be fully alive for every moment of the ride!

Clear out

Stand out excellence

Yet hearing the cries of delight that issue from her room when she’s found something she thought long lost, is delightful.

Having a good clear out is good for us. We get rid of things that we no longer need, we see how we’ve moved from phase to phase in our lives and we rediscover old delights.
